Leaaf Environmental would like to inform our clients about the recent update to the EPA’s dust-lead hazard standards (DLHS) and dust-lead clearance levels (DLCL). Effective January 13, 2025, these revised standards significantly lower the allowable levels of lead in dust to improve protection against lead exposure. The new clearance levels are now set at 5 µg/ft² for floors, 40 µg/ft² for windowsills, and 100 µg/ft² for window troughs. These changes reflect the latest scientific understanding and require compliance with stricter clearance levels for abatement and renovation projects. The final rule also introduces new definitions, reporting requirements, and updated protocols for lead-based paint inspections and abatement activities. These measures align with EPA’s mission to safeguard public health, especially for children.
