Underground Storage Tanks / Remediation

Leaaf Environmental was engaged to carry out a comprehensive Phase II Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) at Meche’s Exxon Station, located at 505 North Main Street in Washington, Louisiana.

The property previously operated as Northside Motor Exchange beginning in 1975. The facility included three gasoline USTs on the east, central, and southern portions of the property associated with an automotive filling and repair station. The following is a case study presenting the investigation and remediation activities conducted during the course of this project.

Historically, the Brothers Discount property operated as a retail gasoline and convenience store under various owners and facility names until abandoned after Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

The Tulane Shell facility has been operated as a gasoline service with three underground storage tanks (USTs) and four active fuel dispensers.

Leaaf was contracted through Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality's (LDEQ's) Underground Storage Tank Division's Abandoned Sites Program to determine the current horizontal and vertical extent of contamination remaining in the soil and groundwater.

From 2015 to 2021, Leaaf Environmental, LLC (Leaaf) provided the professional personnel, equipment, and transportation needed to remove and dispose the accumulated chemicals, non-useable paint, and hydrocarbon liquids collected during the City of New Orleans Household Hazardous Waste Day.

Initially, Leaaf conducted a site assessment to meet the “site check” requirements of Louisiana

Leaaf provided lead support services to assist the City of Gretna with drainage improvements to Gretna along Huey P. Long Avenue with enhancements to Memorial Square per green infrastructure interventions outlined in Phase I of the City of Gretna Downtown Drainage Project.
